Yellowstone Recap with Spoilers: “Horses in Heaven”

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for the latest episode of Yellowstone… “Horses in Heaven” begins with Beth waking up in prison, where she was sent the night before for her role in a bar fight. Jamie arrives as a lawyer and she tells him to do whatever it takes to keep the California woman he assaulted from pressing charges. The tension between them hasn’t changed at all, especially when they work hand in hand.

John is informed of a meeting of policy advisors where he has been told about various policies he should consider turning into actionable items. He disagrees with the policies, but not as much as the way they are presented to him. John ends up firing all his various advisers, saving the state $6 million a year. Fish and Wildlife officials are waiting in John’s office to talk to him about the missing wolves they tracked on his property. They say environmental groups will likely come after him. After she leaves, he gets a call from Jamie about Beth’s situation and follows that conversation with a call to Lynelle to make her lunch.

To get Beth off the hook, Jamie tells the woman that the state will probably press charges against her as well, even though she was the one who hit the beer bottle. There is no single aggressor in a bar fight and the woman approached Beth first, so both would be to blame. He says Beth will be slapped with disorderly conduct either way. The woman ultimately chooses not to press charges and returns home to California. Back at the ranch, Mo and others prepare for Kayce and Monica’s son’s funeral by digging a grave. Rip brings in the ranch hands and they set up camp, also digging a grave for John’s horse to be buried next to his nephew.

Perry and John talk about the different issues they are facing right now. When it comes to wolves, she suggests he hire an environmental consultant, someone who thinks differently than he does. Jamie informs Beth that she is free, but will have a disorderly conduct charge, one that will only require community service. On the way, Beth discovers that Jamie has a son and loses him. After taking from her, how could he become a parent? She attacks him and he stops the car. Beth tells Jamie that she will find a way to take her son from him if it’s the last thing he does.

The natives have a funeral for Kayce and Monica’s son at the ranch, burying the horse next to him. Beth and John watch from afar, not wanting to interrupt but wanting to show their support. He calls her out on her arrest and tells her to find some impulse control. After the funeral, Rainwater tells John he wants to talk, and John comforts Monica because he knows what it’s like to lose a child.

John uses his power as governor to get Summer Higgins out of prison, appointing her as an environmental advisor. Of course, she and Beth run into each other at the house, continuing the troubles of Season 4. Beth also follows Jamie on his date with Sarah Atwood. While logging into a bathroom, she takes a look at Sarah’s ID to get more information about her.
