Rosco DCAMS in action
FMCSA has reviewed the Rosco CV Digital CMS submission and believes that the Rosco DCAMS is likely to achieve a safety level equivalent to or greater than the safety level of standard rearview mirrors.

Rosco, Inc. dba Rosco Vision, has requested an exemption from 49 CFR 393.80(a) to allow the installation of its CV Digital CMS, called DCAMS (Digital Camera and Monitor System), as an alternative to motor vehicle rearview mirrors through Docket No. FMCSA- 2021-0186. FMCSA has reviewed the Rosco CV Digital CMS submission and believes that the Rosco DCAMS is likely to achieve a safety level equivalent to or greater than the safety level of standard rearview mirrors. FMCSA has determined that the Rosco DCAMS exceeds both the FOV required by FMVSS No. 111 and the rearview mirrors currently installed by manufacturers. The exemption applies on December 4, 2022 and ends on December 4, 2027.
Providing better visibility around the vehicle, the Rosco DCAMS was designed to replace the rearview mirrors of commercial vehicles. Digital cameras and monitors cover images displayed in both flat and convex lenses of rearview mirrors.
Rosco DCAMS includes two monitors and two enclosures for connected cameras. The two monitors are mounted on each of the pillars, giving the driver an improved field of view (FOV) and clearer images in all weather conditions. DCAMS monitors provide superior visibility and brighter images during the day and night and include heated cameras to prevent freezing on the lenses in cold temperatures. The aerodynamic design of the camera housings provides fuel savings and efficient operations, while the low profile and high mounting location reduces the risk of impact with objects, thereby reducing costs associated with damage.
