‘Tis the heck of a season to spend time with new and returning shows to round out 2022. It’s been a great year for TV, and as it draws to a close, there are still major releases on the way. The Wizard universe is expanding on Netflix, while the streamer is also adding a new spy drama starring Noah Centineo. To no one’s surprise, Paramount+ is dropping another one Yellowstone spin-off with big names in the cast. After he suffers a stroke, his family fights for control of the business and their secrets surface, putting the lives of his children from two different marriages on a collision course. Slow horses took us by surprise when it debuted earlier this year, becoming one of our favorite series of 2022 (so far) and establishing itself as an original, tense, and unusually funny thriller. Now, it’s back for round two – the series has already been renewed for a third and fourth season – with a six-episode series based on Mick Herron’s film. After an Oscar-winning performance in last year’s biopic Tammy Faye’s eyesthe actor leads the Showtime miniseries George and Tammy with Michael Shannon. The six-episode show follows the rise of iconic country music artists Tammy Wynette and George Jones, whose whirlwind relationship was instrumental to their successes. It will also describe how their love was shattered over the years as George struggled with addiction issues. The drama also stars Steve Zahn, Kelly McCormack, Walton Goggins and Katy Mixon. Fantastic drama His dark materials is based on Philip Pullman’s trilogy of books of the same name, so it makes sense that the upcoming third season will be the series’ last. (Thankfully, no one decided to drag this one out unnecessarily.) This season finds Lyra (Dafne Keen) and Will (Amir Wilson) travel to a place from which no one has ever returned and learn that saving worlds comes at a terrible price. Meanwhile, Lyra’s father’s great war against the Authority draws near. The cast includes James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson, James Cosmo, Anne-Marie Duff and Lin-Manuel Miranda. [Saloni Gajjar]

Based on Octavia E. Butler’s beloved 1979 time travel novel, the eight-episode FX series kin follows Dana (Mallori Johnson), a black writer from Atlanta, who jumps between modern times in her home and a pre-Civil War plantation. Playwright and guards vet Branden Jacobs-Jenkins adapted the material and serves as showrunner, while Darren Aronofsky serves as one of the executive producers. Disney+ Legacy Series National Treasure: The Edge of History will be at a disadvantage when it premieres: without Nicolas Cage on hand, National treasure it has no national treasure. The producers wisely brought in another big name, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and a couple of cast members, Harvey Keitel and Justin Bartha, to try and fill the cage-sized hole at the center of the show. Disney is giving the show 10 episodes and a massive budget to figure out if people will go for it, viewers will probably tune in to see if Ben Gates shows up for a cameo. [Matt Schimkowitz]

Made by castle and rookie producer Alexi Hawley, this new espionage drama follows Owen Hendricks, an elderly lawyer who is employed by the CIA. He is immediately involved in a complicated international mission while negotiating with an asset and finds himself at odds with menacing individuals and groups who want to kill him.
