ALEXANDRIA, Va., November 28, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — NATSO, representing the nation’s travel markets and truck stations, and SIGMA: America’s Leading Fuel Marketers, issued the following statement regarding the ongoing railroad labor negotiations and their potential impact on the fuel supply of the nation. The following statement can be attributed to Tiffany Wlazlowski Neuman, NATSO’s Vice President of Public Affairs.
“We encourage the Administration and Congress to take aggressive action to resolve the ongoing labor dispute in the railroad industry. If a work stoppage were to occur, it would immediately disrupt the ability of fuel retailers to provide a reliable and stable supply of fuel to American consumers. and for the nation’s commercial fleets. The U.S. economy in many ways revolves around transportation fuel, and if the components needed for that fuel can’t get to where they’re needed, the market impact will be drastic. The economic consequences will be catastrophic.
“A prolonged rail shutdown will strain the nation’s fuel supply by disrupting the availability of ethanol, which is often an essential component of gasoline, and the diesel exhaust fluid that most heavy-duty trucks must run on.
“Amidst limited fuel reserves and low inventories, idling cars will introduce a massive disruption to the availability of these additives, exposing the fuel market to a marked drop in supply from which it could not quickly adjust.”
