Race 1 – Handicap 3YO (900m)

Hard to ignore Saturday’s form and RISKY INVESTMENT (1) has had a break since winning at Eagle Farm on debut. He’s up 2kg but has been kept fresh, gets a tongue tie and with Michael Cahill from a good wicket he’ll get the gun and should be too good.

Two Mishanis on show but Jim Orman usually has first choice and MISHANI GANGSTER (2) showed them a clean pair of heels at the Sunshine Coast. He’s only 0.5kg extra and that might not be enough to stop him.

CIFRADO (3) won a trial at Toowoomba and Rex Lipp found a small field to give him the start. His mother had speed, follow support.

MISHANI FLASH (6) has finished just under the post in all three starts but keeps trying.

Verdict – Favor RISKY INVESTMENTS (1) over MISHANI GANGSTER (2) but watch out for market moves.

Race 2 – Open Handicap (900m)

The prospect of rain will help PRINCESSA LUNAR (7), who put better ground than this to the sword when first placed last trip. She subsequently failed at Eagle Farm but is unbeaten over this trip here and at just 53kg and a good gate will be hard to pass.

SUPERARE (4) took plenty of races but followed PRINCESSA LUNAR (7) home five starts back and has maintained her form since. Ben Thompson rides him well and will save him for the last run at them.

SEA RAIDER (1) is first up and giving them all the weight but won a Listed race last preparation and won his only previous start this trip. If they go crazy up front, it could eat them up late.

PIZONIE (8) has struggled to find form but is well treated here with Angela Jones’ claim and has been freshened by a recent trial.

Verdict – PRINCESSA LUNAR (7) is a track and distance specialist.

Race 3 – Maiden Plate (1700m)

Most of them have been trying for a while but ENUNCIATION (1) has covered extra ground when placing on his last two outings, will enjoy the trip and gets all the favors from gate one. With Kyle Wilson Taylor’s 1.5kg claim, he will make his own luck and that may be enough.

CAIRDEAS (5) was disappointed by Eagle Farm but may have choked and is more suitable here. She was just beaten at Ipswich on her first start for the O’Dea/Hoysted stable, the tongue game returns and a repeat of the effort has her in the end.

GERARDJOSEPH (2) has now had two starts for Tony Gollan and should be peaking his fitness. It’s slow to break through, but this trip fits and the stitches are coming back. He meets a moderate field and with a positive trip Angela Jones can guide him home.

The mystery runner is DEEPTRIX (7) who tries pretty well but failed to flatter on both outings. Chris Waller brings them north with a purpose and improvement is on the cards.

Verdict – STATEMENT (1) gets the favors and won’t find one much easier.

Race 4 – Class 1 Handicap (1350m)

Les Kelly brought RAPID OUTLAW (6) back home after straying too far from a wide gate at Doomben and it was never likely. He won his Maiden in fine style here three starts back and a more positive ride from Ben Thompson can get the money.

SOUNDS DIVINE (7) turned too long at Ipswich and found trouble on the right but hit the line. She has placed in two of three starts here and, with Michael Cahill replacing Sean Cormack, draws not to work. She’ll give them a head start, but watch out until late.

SUMMER IN SIAM (3) was too good at Kembla Grange on debut and Annabel Neasham brought him north. He is high in class, weight and distance, which makes him difficult, but he might have more advantages than the rest.

KOPANGI (1) came north to win one and will benefit from first place fitness at Kembla Grange. Longer is better but he has run stronger races than this last preparation and Jim Orman will give him every chance.

Verdict – Les Kelly’s horses go best here – RAPID OUTLAW (6) for me.

Race 5 – 3YO Maiden Plate (1350m)

Quite a few knocking on the door here but SEA COMMITS (11) can make his own luck and has placed in three of four starts here. She was too far back at Ballina last start but was not out of proportion when she led behind Storm The Fortress on her previous outing. Now fourth in a spell, he is fully fit and with Martin Harley he will be hard to put down.

TIRITIRI (8) has been getting better with each outing and just missed the run on Dubai Dee at Doomben after being held back in the straight. Chris Waller brought North to get a score on the board and Jim Orman will have every chance.

Verdict – SEA COMMITS (11) holds up well and is worth playing.

Race 6 – Benchmark 75 Handicap (2200m)

Chris Waller is loving these midweek days and GAMBU (5) will enjoy his return to midweek company. He battled well on Saturday’s similar course last start and, with Jim Byrne, can make his presence felt again.

REFLECT THE STARS (4) was worried late on by Shopping Esprit at the Sunshine Coast and was making his second start for David Vandyke. She is more of a place pick than a winner but this ride fits the bill and won’t be far in the running

SAVVY OAK (1) is winless outside the line but has now had three outings in Saturday’s grade, finishing mid-field each time. Rob Heathcote dropped him back in midweek on a trip he likes and Jaden Lloyd will give him every chance,

Waller’s other runner SUPPRESSION (2) is more suitable for four outings and was prominent for a long time in Saturday’s class last start Rosehill. He’s a tough guy, but Jim Orman will have him close enough if he’s good enough.

Verdict – A lottery but GAMBU (5) is suitable in this company.

Race 7 – Benchmark 70 Handicap (1700m)

Lawrie Mayfield-Smith is patient with his horses and while TAREX (5) was disappointing when never quite comfortable after early intervention when beaten as favorite on the restart at the Sunshine Coast, I’m not going to I’m still firing. Will strip in shape, rattles on, fits extra distance and Martin Harley is a good booking. A last-form placegetter in the Winx Guineas, he is a Saturday horse and can return here.

NAMAKWA (1) entered a strong Grade 5 field when he resumed and had his first start for Rob Heathcote. He will find this distance more suitable, he receives a 1.5kg claim for Kyle Wilson-Taylor and his Victorian form is up to par in this class.

ALDERMAN (2) is a journeyman but raced seriously and fought hard behind Irish Playboy last start. With Angela Jones he will go ahead, make his own luck and usually be there at the end.

GO DARCY (7) is hard to follow but Georgina Cartwright brought it home over this trip, here two starts back and on a soft track she could do so again.

Verdict – TAREX (5) has more advantages than the rest.

Race 8 – Benchmark 68 Handicap (1200m)

A raffle to end the day but I’ll go with DYNAMIC DUO (6) who got way too far at Doomben but hit the line hard. He drew poorly but the extra distance suits him and he has a good record at this track. Jim Byrne stays on his feet and if he’s close enough to straighten out he can overwhelm them late.

DIXON BAY (4) has not won for some time but is capable fresh and showed he is ready to go in a recent Beaudesert trial. With Kyle Wilson-Taylor and a good goal, he can be prominent.

MAXCALEMMA (5) found form last training and can run well fresh. He had a trial to prepare and if the rain comes it will be right at the end.

PRETTY DEVINE (12) has only fought at Eagle Farm but the firm track may have tested her. A softer surface here will suit and she has the speed to be prominent.

Verdict – DYNAMIC DUO (6) can overcome the gate.
