F. Albert “Abbie” Shank Obituary

F. Albert “Abbie” Shank, 78, of Marion, PA, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Chambersburg Hospital. Born in Waynesboro, PA on April 11, 1944, he was the son of the late William K. and Lillie I. Monninger Shank.

A 1962 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, Abbie completed trade school at the former Landis Instrument Company, where she eventually retired as a quality control supervisor after over 40 years. Abbie was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church where she served on the Capital Campaign Building Fund Committee, helped with the monthly community meals and assisted with the annual audit. Abbie was also a member of the Landis Tool Retirement Breakfast Club, GAHS Class of ’62 Reunion Committee, Moose Lodge 842 in Chambersburg, Elks Lodge 2270 in Waynesboro, the USA Equestrian Federation and the Association The US Trotter. Abbie began working at the age of 10 for the John Burkholder Horse Stables in Shady Grove, PA; this is where his love for horses began. He was an avid horseman, owning and showing horses throughout his life, training and even racing. He was a Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Phillies fan, enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, hosting the annual family reunion where he was best known for his barbecue chicken and softball games with “Abbie’s Rules” , which could change suddenly. In his early years, Abbie enjoyed coaching Marion Girls Fast Pitch Softball in the early 80’s where he was known for his signs and secret plays.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Minnich Shank, whom he married on June 11, 1966, two daughters, Kathy A. Boos of Chambersburg, PA and Teresa J. Metzger (husband Scott) of Chambersburg, PA; four grandchildren, Joshua Boos (wife Brianna) of Orrstown, PA, Kalynn Boos, Ann Metzger and Elijah Metzger, all of Chambersburg, PA; four brothers, Gerald Shank (wife Ruby) of Greencastle, PA, Leslie Shank (wife Kay) of Greencastle, PA, William Robert Shank (wife Donna) of Chambersburg, PA and John Shank (wife Shirley) of Shady Grove, PA; sister-in-law, Linda Minnich, horse-loving friend, Tim Reed, who is like family, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Curtiss Boos and four siblings, Effie Fetterhoff, Mary Meyers, Irene Helman and Joseph Shank.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, with Pastor Brent Stouffer officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and address above. Burial will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
