Designer Jenni Kayne is listing her sumptuous California ranch for $6 million

Jenni Kayne, designer and founder of her eponymous California lifestyle brand, Jenni Kayne, started her brand in 2002 at the age of 19 as a clothing and footwear brand. She became known for her cozy wardrobe essentials such as cashmere sweaters, shoes and accessories. In 2017, she expanded into homewares with furniture, decor and accessories, and also founded the skincare line Oak Essentials in 2021. All of her pieces are inspired by the laid-back California lifestyle with a color palette neutral; comfortable but elegant silhouettes; and natural materials.

Her latest effort? Design the house. Jenni Kayne’s ranch, which is now on the market for $5.995 million, was her family’s first Los Angeles weekend getaway before she decided to sell. When he stepped onto the beautiful ranch in Santa Ynez, California in January 2020, he saw the immediate potential for a project. However, the potential required some vision.

“This house had been abandoned since the 1970s and was pretty much in disrepair,” says Kayne. Forbes. “It required extensive renovations, but we saw the potential from the moment we walked in. My team and I took the property to the wire, rebuilding every detail to create a space that truly celebrates the essence of California living. We opened up the living spaces to create an effortless flow, raised the ceilings and brightened every room. We made sure every window had a view of the Santa Ynez Valley.”

The house required extensive renovations, which lasted almost two years. But with such a desirable location in the Woodstock Ranch community, just 2.5 hours outside of Los Angeles and 30 minutes from Santa Barbara, and with nearby access to wineries, outdoor activities and charming towns, she knew that may.

The completed project is a 3,860-square-foot, four-bedroom, five-bathroom home, and the home sits on 20 acres of gated grounds. When she designed the house, she envisioned it as a relaxing sanctuary for her own family and friends. The home prioritizes indoor and outdoor living, and the natural landscape never feels too far away. There are 360-degree views of the Santa Ynez Mountains through floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as private terraces accessible from the bedrooms, kitchen and living room.

The open single story floor plan features a simple chef’s kitchen, dining room, outdoor living area and pool and spa just steps outside the home. Kayne’s design style is instantly recognizable in this home: a palette of shades of white and off-white; earthly; and full of sumptuous textures and materials. Of course, the ultra-private escape is outfitted with Kayne furniture and home lines (which can be purchased with the home for an additional cost), as well as Parachute bedding and our own Oak Essentials bath products.

“We are constantly inspired by notions of California living and nature—both of which are embodied at Jenni Kayne Ranch,” she says. “The Ranch’s embrace of indoor and outdoor living inspired our outdoor collection, the Vista Collection, as well as several additional outdoor pieces that will be released in 2023. The abundance of natural materials also inspired a handful of accent pieces , such as the soon-to-be-released Ranch Stump and Planter, are made from suar wood.”

In addition to expanding its skincare, apparel and home offerings — it recently opened showrooms in New York and Los Angeles — Kayne is looking to IPO by 2024 under Pacific Group. This comes after huge success across all categories, but especially at Jenni Kayne Home, which is expected to reach $100 million in sales by 2024. The farmhouse redesign is just the first of many hospitality-led projects. Her company recently partnered with Auberge Resorts Collection property, The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, where her skin care line will be included in the spa. She also cleaned the interiors at Te Arai Golf Resort in New Zealand and also has plans for a Jenni Kayne Hotel on the way.
