Beginning in 2007, viewers got an inside look at the lives of the Gosselin family, which consisted of Kate and Jon Gosselin and their eight children, including a set of twins and a set of sextuplets. Then Jon and Kate Plus 8 was on the air, the kids were all young, and at the beginning of the series, Jon and Kate were still together. But it’s been many years since the reality hit was in its prime. Jon and Kate divorced in 2009, and today not all family members are still in touch.
Two of the sextuplets…Collin and Hannah Gosselin— lived with their father after the split, while the other four were in their mother’s custody. In a new interview with Entertainment tonight, Collin opened up about his life after the show, his estrangement from his mother and siblings, and his time in two “scary” institutions. Read on to find out what the 18-year-old had to say.

Collin was sent to a behavioral health facility in 2016 when he was 12 years old, which led to the deterioration of his relationship with his mother.
“Collin has special needs,” Kate said people in 2016.”[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn some strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle I’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve faced alone. I felt very alone in this. In the same way, it’s not something that just affected me or him – our whole family was affected.”
Telling his own story, Collin said Entertainment tonight, “I was in two different institutions. A scary place. I was actually 12 years old when I was admitted there, and then I spent my 13th and 14th birthdays there.” He added that he believes “being in a place like that does more harm than good.”
Collin wrote an impassioned letter to his father begging him to bring him home from the institution. In 2018, Jon won sole custody of his son when Kate failed to appear in court, as reported We weekly.
Of his mother’s rationalization for sending him away, including describing him as having “special needs,” Collin said. E.T“It is unfortunate that this is how my mother expressed me as a person. I don’t see those things and I don’t think anyone else does. And I hope that if we meet again one day, she’ll understand that’s not the case.”
The high school also said of Kate: “My mother had her own agenda. I don’t know exactly what that was, but my agenda was to get over that difficult point.”

Besides not having a relationship with his mother, Collin has no relationship with his siblings other than Hannah. Hannah had also decided to live with their father. “I’ve always been closer to my dad and we’ve always had a strong and good relationship,” she said E.T in May. She also explained that she is in contact with her mother and siblings, unlike Collin.
“I haven’t spoken to my brothers for five or six years. It’s hard,” Collin said. E.T. Collin’s other siblings are 22-year-old twins Madelyn and Carry and the remaining sextuplets, Aaden, Alexis, Joeland th.
Collin said he hopes he and his siblings can reconnect one day and get over any issues they had with their parents.
“I love my brothers. I would be willing to leave my parents and I did. In my eyes, it’s me and my brothers. I love them to death,” Collin said after crying. “I love them so much. The way I see it, with no parents involved, it’s just me and them. I really hope that one day when I have kids, my kids will know their aunts and uncles.”
He went on to say that he was waiting for them to arrive first. “I want to respect their space and their time and respect how they feel about everything, so I’m just waiting for the day they reach out,” Collin explained.
